Introduction
The Ministry of Justice and Security’s screening authority (Justis) assesses the reliability of individuals and organisations to promote a safe and just society.
As a government organisation, Justis conducts screening in areas in which politicians and society feel that reliability is important. Justis has access to unique information that is only available to the government. As any screening activities conducted by the private sector should also be reliable, Justis screens private-sector organisations as well.
Justis contributes to upholding the rule of law, given that the rule of law can only function properly if reliability and security are guaranteed. When screening individuals and organisations, Justis puts the principles of the rule of law front and centre. Justis conducts its screening independently and with an eye for privacy, weighing the interests of the individual against the interests of society on a statutory basis.
Justis regards itself as an ambitious implementing agency that carries out its tasks carefully and reliably, while at the same time keeping an eye out for opportunities for improvement. Justis operates from the perspective of the citizen and is keenly aware that its decisions can have a deep impact on people’s lives.
Ambitions
Moving towards 2025, Justis has the following ambitions for society.
- Connection: Justis is in touch with its surroundings and is therefore alert to opportunities to use screening in other ways and in other sectors.
- Shared knowledge: Justis shares its knowledge of screening and how laws and policy rules turn out in practice with society, policy departments and existing and new commissioning parties.
- Cooperation: to increase the added value of screening for society, Justis actively seeks cooperation with other parties, both nationally and internationally.
Integrity and quality
Justis conducts it screening with integrity and with an eye for society and pays a great deal of attention to the quality of its products, such as the various certificates of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG) and the recommendations it issues pursuant to the Public Administration (Probity Screening) Act (Wet bevordering integriteitsbeoordelingen door het openbaar bestuur, Bibob). To this end, Justis invests not only in its staff, but also in modern information and communication technology and in cooperation with chain partners. Among other things, this investment in quality has led to Justis being certified according to the ISO-9001 standard.
Excellent service
Justis also strives for excellence in its service provision. In order to be able to safeguard this, Justis regularly conducts customer satisfaction surveys. The results of these surveys always lead to detailed improvement plans.
